Dermal Fillers

JUVEDERM | RESTYLANE

FDA approved dermal fillers are one of the most popular procedures Dr. Cristiani-Nguyen offers because they offer targeted results with minimal discomfort associated with the treatment. Dr. Cristiani-Nguyen may choose from a collection of hyaluronic acid fillers designed to add volume, such as Juvederm Voluma or Restylane Lyft. These smooth formulations offer natural results that can last up to one year.

For more durable results Dr. Cristiani-Nguyen might opt for products like Radiesse or Sculptra, which contain different ingredients that stimulate the body to produce more collagen to add volume naturally. Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres which offer immediate support to dermal layers while triggering collagen production for longer-lasting results. Sculptra features poly-L-lactic acid that works in the deeper dermal structure to increase collagen levels over time. Once your results appear, they may last up to two years.

Let us know if you’ve had previous facial or lip fillers: when, where, and what type of dermal filler.

Everyone’s face has slight asymmetry, so it’s normal to be uneven after a dermal filler treatment.

Some clients might experience bruising or swelling around the injection sites for up to two weeks. For these reasons do not plan any social events the day of or for several days following the procedure.

Your final results will be apparent in the weeks following your procedure and will last for many months.

Facial dermal fillers are NOT permanent. Results vary and typically last 6-12 months.

pre-treatment

  • Don’t take any blood thinning medications such as Aleve, Advil, Ibuprofen, Motrin or Aspirin for one week prior to your visit, to reduce the chance of bruising.
  • Do not drink alcohol for 5 days prior and 3 days after your procedure, this helps prevent bruising and minimizes swelling.
  • Arrive at your appointment with a clean face (no makeup).
  • Do not arrive fasting.
  • Hydrate yourself beginning 1 day prior to appointment.
  • Eat a light snack .
  • IF you tend to faint with medical procedures, INFORM provider prior to procedure.

post-treatment

  • The injected area(s) can be swollen for up to 2 weeks with the majority of swelling subsiding in 3 days. In some cases, each side may appear uneven or bumpy at first, this will improve. Gentle massage with Arnica gel as instructed will help alleviate this. Do not panic, it’s all normal.
  • Apply clean ice pack to area for at least 30 minutes after injections, as explained in post procedure handout.
  • DON’T exercise or raise your heart rate for 48 hours after dermal filler procedure.
  • DON’T allow any pressure directly on injected sites and no down-face activities such as massage or yoga for 48 hours after dermal fillers.
  • When to call us: If you experience extreme or worsening swelling, bruising, pain, redness or blanching (paleness).

Most fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring in the body and is reabsorbed over time. These types of dermal fillers can be reversed (dissolved) in worst-case scenarios.

Other dermal fillers are composed of either calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres or poly-L-lactic acid which increase the body’s production of collagen over time. These types of dermal fillers CANNOT be reversed (dissolved).

Facial fillers only add volume. They will NOT change the overall structure or fully correct asymmetry.

Dermal fillers do not correct pigmentation problems, especially under the eyes (dark circles), but they can help reduce shadowing from  grooves such as the tear trough.

Fine lines are often best corrected with combination therapy of fillers, neurotoxin (Botox/Dysport/Xeomin) and resurfacing  procedures like microneedling.

Under treatment of areas is not recommended and will lead to an incomplete effect that results in asymmetry and residual muscle movement. I assure you, my practice is artful and subtle.
